Counseling Fast Facts

At TeenPride, our goal for each student is to achieve a solid high school education, emotional well-being, a positive sense of self, readiness for college or a vocation, and a sense of civic responsibility. Our goal is for each youth to mature in good health and receive a high quality education”.

What does it cost?
All services are free.

Where do you meet?
Counselors primarily work at the schools, Morristown High School and Frelinghuysen Middle School.  The counselor may meet with the student between classes, at lunch, during an open session or at dismissal.  We are not limited to the schools.  We provide family counseling in the home.  We work with students in out of district placement.  Counselors also go where they are needed – to the youth shelter, to the home, to court, etc.  At Morristown High School our office is located in the “school store”.

Who can use TeenPride counseling?
The teen or their immediate family must reside in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains.  The teen must be between 12-18 years old, or if over 18 be a student working toward high school graduation or a GED.  We do provide counseling to some teens that do not currently live in the three towns above, such as teens who reside at the Youth Shelter or Morris County Detention Center.

How do we get help?
Call 973-292-2000 # 3722.  You will be able to leave a voice message.  We check the messages frequently Monday through Friday during school hours.  A counselor will return your call as soon as possible.  During school vacations and summer break, please call the TeenPride office 973-993-1699 to get information about our counseling program.  If this is a crisis call 911.

How do I know it is time to ask for help?
We will help you understand what is going on, your teen’s behavior and how serious it may be.  Our counselors welcome students  “just to talk” and we counsel on light as well as very serious issues.  There is no topic too trivial and no topic too serious.

Is counseling confidential?
We are happy to discuss confidentiality of counseling at any time so that everyone involved understands – the teen, parent or guardian, family members.   Managing confidentiality when counseling minors, is more complex than when counseling adults.  TeenPride counselors must balance their ethical and legal responsibilities to their clients, clients’ parents, school systems and statutes.  We want the teen and their parent or guardian to understand confidentiality and privacy rights and will provide the necessary information and answer any  questions.

What is the relationship between
TeenPride and the school counselors?

TeenPride works at the two schools at the request of the Morris School District and in partnership with the school counseling offices.  The school counselors are highly qualified to counsel on many of the same issues that TeenPride does.  We support the school counselors.  TeenPride focuses on non-academic counseling.  We specialize in behavioral and emotional issues.   A significant difference is that TeenPride counselors are available in a crisis any day, any time (24 X 7); we are not limited to working within the school facility and we provide family counseling.

What other help is available?
We understand the Morris County government and social service agencies, the programs and services they offer and can help you get the assistance you need.
